Please reach us at louise@clearwaxremoval.net if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Earwax removal can feel a little strange but it shouldn't be painful. We will check with throughout the procedure to ensure that you are comfortable and we can stop and take a break if you need to.
After our clinician looks in your ears, we can place an ear probe camera inside so you can see the wax for yourself! We will never carry out or charge for unnecessary procedures if you don't need them.
We recommend using olive oil drops in your ears for one week prior to the appointment. This just softens the wax making for easier extraction. We don't recommend using any drops with hydrogen peroxide or sodium bicarbonate as this can make earwax more difficult to remove.
Although our techniques are carried out with your safety in mind, there is always going to be a small risk of abrasion to your ear canal. This is reduced significantly by remaining still during the procedure. However, if this is not possible your clinician will switch to a different method. There is a small risk of infection after the procedure. Earwax is one of the body's natural defences against infection and by removing it, there will be a short period of time where your ears will be slightly more vulnerable than usual whilst the new earwax re-generates. During your consultation, your clinician will explain all the risks and make the best course of action based on your previous medical history and ear examination. Your clinician will also provide aftercare advice to ensure that you know what to do after your appointment.
Yes! If your ear is impacted with wax, you should be able to hear better straight away once the blockage is removed.
Most of the time, we can remove the wax in one session. There are times however, where the wax can become very impacted and we may recommend another visit to complete the procedure after applying more olive oil. We only charge per complete procedure, so you wont pay more if we need to come back.
Your clinician will take a detailed look in your ear canal before proceeding with your earwax removal. There is a possibility we may see an issue, like infection which might prevent us from proceeding. In this case, we will recommend you see your GP and arrange another visit with us when the problem has been resolved. For this we will only charge you a £20 consultation fee which will be deducted from your overall treatment when we see you again to carry out the earwax removal.
Warm water irrigation is a safe and effective method if used correctly and hygienically. We use a warm water jet inside the ear canal, making sure to not to place any direct pressure on the ear drum. The warm water gets behind the wax and flushes it out. We won't use warm water irrigation if you have a perforation of your ear drum. In this case, we are able to to use microsuction as an alternative.
Tinnitus can sometimes be aggravated by the noise generated by the microsuction machine. This is usually very temporary and will wear off shortly after the procedure.
It is possible to feel a little dizzy after warm water irrigation r microsuction. This should resolve shortly after the procedure once the ears have equalised.
There have been an increase of these kits on the market, however we DO NOT recommend any form of DIY ear wax removal. This includes the use of normal cotton ear buds, electronic ear probe attachments or any other instrument. These can cause lasting damage to your ears, infections and potentially even hearing loss.
Your clinician has been trained to assess and remove earwax safely. Each ear is unique and should be treated as such!
No. The methods used will depend on your own individual anatomy, medical history, and any pre-existing ear problems. Sometimes the most stubborn of wax will require all three methods of wax removal in one appointment and some will only require one. We will always come fully prepared for all eventualities!
We will leave you with an aftercare leaflet to inform you how to look after your ears after your procedure. Also, we welcome you to get in touch if you are having any issues or side effects after your appointment that you were perhaps not expecting. If we have seen anything during your appointment that needs a referral to your GP or pharmacist, we will be sure to let you know.
We feel that the most important thing is to be honest at your appointment. We want your ears to be as healthy and wax-free as possible so its really important to be upfront about your medical history. We also know that some people can use controversial methods of ear wax removal so please be honest with your clinician.. chances are we've heard it before!
It is totally normal to feel a bit anxious prior to your appointment , especially if you have not had this procedure done before. We will do our utmost to reassure you and explain everything so you are as comfortable and as informed as possible all the way through.
